| MAY 13, 2003 WALLINGFORD ROADSIDE CAVE Position: WGS84 - 18 10' 57.8" N, 77 38' 36.3" W, Alt 210 m Field notes: R. S. STEWART Cavers: R. S. Stewart, A. McFarlane Wallingford Roadside Cave is a small shelter cave located across the road, and a short distance south of, Wallingford River Cave. It was a source of fossils of the extinct rodent, Clidomys, collected by Donald A McFarlane in 1984. The cave was easily found and GPS marked. Breccia is still found and is in surprisingly good shape considering the frequent disturbance that the cave has seen over the years. A cursory inspection of the surface of the breccia showed nothing of obvious paleontological interest. |
