[Update, Nov 09/11. This page has been online since late 2005, but has seen a surge of traffic since 2009 due to Buju's problems in America. We take no pleasure in this, and would like to stress that his drug crimes, and his homophobia, are two separate issues.

The next three paragraphs were written before Buju was incarcerated in the USA.

Please be advised that we are presenting the audio file found above, of Boom Bye Bye, for no other reason than to serve as an example of homophobia in Jamaica, as part of Footnote 5 of the Jamaica Tourist Advisory (linked at the top). We are not receiving any money by doing this, and have no intention of doing so in the future (in fact, because this page is getting very heavy traffic, it's starting to feel rather grubby - some of you are finding it because you like the lyrics.) The audio file is not CD quality and not suitable for commercial use.

It is our opinion that because this song is not presented in a commercial format, and, more importantly, because it would be regarded as a blatant incitement to violence in most Western jurisdictions (including the place where this website is hosted), our use of the audio file as a heads-up to others falls under "Fair use", when seen in the context in which it is delivered, with this spoken to by the DMCA. Those who dispute this interpretation of the law are invited to contact us.

For the record, we are great fans of some of Buju's music ("Hills and Valleys" is one of the finest songs ever written), and hope that he will eventually disavow the song "Boom Bye Bye" and donate any monies made through sales and royalties of it to J-FLAG. Not only would it be the right thing to do, it would help him internationally (i.e. no more cancelled concerts in Brighton). Lastly, not that it matters, the author of this page is not gay (he's married to a very beautiful girl from Ewarton), just tired of the general day-to-day juvenile nonsense that is accepted as normal behaviour in Jamaica, whether it's about sexuality or not. It's time for the country to grow up, and if this page helps, great stuff.]
