ROACH CAVE:

Field notes: I. C. CONOLLEY

Cavers: R. S. Stewart, I. C. Conolley, M. Taylor

Maldon has many caves. Cup and Saucer comes out near the Church and Roach Cave is found through a banana field.

We enter the six by six feet, (approx.), opening and as we scramble down we encounter water. We step in. It is knee deep for me. I am six feet one. Okay, the water continues like this through the passageway. Then, voila, the water and the top to the cave get closer. I am ahead when we encounter this and call Stef. Looks bad to me. This cave is mapped. It goes through to another entrance. The water is too serious. We backtrack.

This cave is not muddy just wet. It’s like a tunnel.
