Workshop participants varied in their experience with maps, ranging from one participant who had completed a university-level surveying seminar through one who had never even seen a Shello or Esso roadmap of Jamaica. The majority had basic experience with maps from Secondary School geography courses. This diversity in background skills proved useful during the workshop, as participants with more advanced training were able to assist those who had had less exposure to maps and compasses before the workshop. 7.
