INTRODUCTION AND CONTENTS


Friday, November 29th

0800 - 1200: Field Evaluation - Do you trust the Line Orienteering Routes created by your peers the day before? The instructors will have selected the most interesting and will set up way points in the field to which you will orient (Stage 1). Then, determining a different route back to WRC, you will find your way home, plotting your route on the topographic map (Stage 2). Remember, your transport wants to return home tonight, so don't get lost!

1200-1300: Lunch

1300-1500: Lecture - Introduction to Global Positioning System (GPS), Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and ArcView Computer Software.

1500 - 1530: Course Wrap-Up


EVALUATION

This workshop will be evaluated by way of written and practical field tests. The split of the evaluation will be:
    10% field notebook
    10% use of compass
    10% identify features of topographic maps
    30% developing an orienteering map
    40% use of map to orient in the field
