Me No Sen Cave
August 4, 2010
Team: RS Stewart, S Travis, N Kirk
Notes: RS Stewart

Sammi Travis, Nick Kirk, and Stewart visited Me No Sen Cave for monitoring. Access is via the abandoned railway line, from the south, with two tunnels en route. The site had been visited previously on January 14, 2005, by Stewart, when we had approached it from the north.

Unfortunately, the squeeze to the 6m-drop, which descends into the rest of the system from entrance 1, is still blocked by bamboo and mud. An attempt will be made next session to find entrance 2 from the surface by georeferencing the cave map (and hoping the survey accuracy is very good).

Bat numbers in the accessible section were under 500, and appeared to be restricted to Artibeus jamaicensis. Catch and release is best done with a mist net, although the low numbers and difficulty in reaching the site make it a low priority for now.

N.B. This cave is nowhere near the Me No Sen district of the Cockpit Country.
