[clown] Office of
the Public Defender [yay!] August 23,
2005 Dear Mr.
Public Defender, Sir, Re: Bahia Principe
Resort, Pear Tree Bottom, Runaway Bay, St Ann Your letter arrived on Friday August 19, 2005. Thank
you very much for your prompt intervention! You, the “voice of the voiceless”, have made us heard where [my
brave friend] was getting quite hoarse and I was preparing for drastic clown
action. I am very glad that your office exists. It is heartening to know that
some things in Jamaica do function. Mr. [somebody] June 28, 2005 response to you provides
a basis for direct communication of I hope a more civil nature. It seems a pity
we have to resort to threats of legal action to have our concerns taken
seriously, but at least in this country we do have that option. I have joined a
group of concerned citizens considering that possibility and will inform you of
the outcome of our deliberations. One of my main motivations in taking on this
‘case’ is for love of a group of boys who told me they couldn’t go crab hunting
at Pear Tree Bottom any more because of the fence erected by the developers.
They are primary school age, and nobody would generally listen to their young
voices, yet it is their future we are determining through our actions. I will
let them and others know that you have played a part in representing their
interests to the more powerful institutions of government agencies and
commercial concerns. It is an important lesson for our youth to realise there
are other ways to deal with oppression and frustration than burning tires,
shooting people or making useless noise. I intend to spread the word. I only
hope you do not get inundated with cases because of it. Thanks again for the commendable work. Blessings, Respect, One Love Sincerely, [now Auntie
